UNSEEN SHORES - Prologue
"Departure"
She began with her last breath.
June was asleep, resting on a yew tree with an old, black book in her lap. Her gilded locks were dancing and bouncing over the hills of her cheeks, while ants were scouting the coves formed by her silky poppy dress. A warm light scattered by the clouds and leaves gave her an angelic appearance, and the tree’s bark seemed to mould her shoulders perfectly. There were children running around, chasing and falling, as children do, all oblivious to her presence and calm.
The brisk wind flirted with the grass once more and brushed past her fair skin before rustling the leaves as goodbye. Nothing, it seemed, was capable of disturbing the peace she had found. Not the rain, gently beginning its descent. Not the children, playing to their hearts’ content. Not the bombs, painting the horizon with a frightening glow. Not the Hurricane, fast approaching with a different snow.
